Analysis Of Static Control Standards For TFT LCD Display Modules

Aug 12, 2025

The harm of static electricity to TFT LCD display screens
TFT LCD display screens, as precision electronic display devices, are extremely sensitive to electrostatic discharge (ESD). Electrostatic discharge may cause the following problems:
The internal driver IC of the display screen is damaged, causing abnormal or complete display failure
The arrangement of liquid crystal molecules is disrupted, resulting in bright spots, dark spots, or stripes on the display
Thin film transistor (TFT) array damaged, affecting pixel control accuracy
Short circuit or open circuit in the internal circuit of the module, causing loss of function

Static control standard requirements
1. Environmental control standards
The production environment must meet ISO 14644-1 Class 7 (Class 10000) or higher cleanliness standards
Control the relative humidity within the range of 40% -60%
Workbenches, floors, etc. should be made of anti-static materials with a surface resistivity of 10 ^ 6-10 ^ 9 Ω
Ionic fan covers all working areas and neutralizes static charges in the air

2. Personnel protection standards
Operators must wear anti-static clothing, anti-static shoes, and anti-static wristbands
The grounding resistance of the wrist strap should be around 1M Ω, and its effectiveness should be regularly tested
It is prohibited to wear or remove clothing or perform actions that are prone to static electricity in the operating area

3. Material and equipment standards
All tools and fixtures must be made of anti-static materials
Transport containers must use anti-static turnover boxes or anti-static bags
The grounding resistance of the equipment is less than 4 Ω, and the grounding effectiveness should be checked regularly
Control the static voltage of the workbench within ± 100V

Common Problems and Solutions
1. Inadequate implementation of anti-static measures
Problem manifestation: Operators did not wear anti-static equipment correctly or the equipment failed
Solution: Strengthen training, implement regular inspection system, and equip with real-time monitoring system

2. Environmental parameters exceed the standard range
Problem manifestation: Low humidity (<40%) leads to static electricity accumulation
Solution: Install an automatic humidification system and set up an environmental parameter alarm mechanism

3. Insufficient protection during material transportation
Problem manifestation: The module is exposed to a non anti-static environment during transportation
Solution: Use anti-static packaging throughout the process and establish a strict material handover process

Testing and Verification Methods
Surface resistance test: Use a surface resistance tester to regularly check the resistance values of areas such as workbenches and floors
Static voltage test: using an electrostatic field tester to measure the static voltage level in key areas
ESD sensitivity test: Conduct module anti-static ability test according to IEC 61000-4-2 standard
Functional testing: adding ESD functional testing after production process

Continuous improvement measures
Establish a complete static electricity protection management system, including:
Regularly review and evaluate the effectiveness of existing anti-static measures
Collect and analyze ESD related adverse data, identify weak links
Introducing new technologies and materials to enhance anti-static capabilities
Establish an anti-static knowledge base and continuously train relevant personnel

By strictly implementing the above standards and requirements, the quality problems caused by static electricity in TFT LCD display modules can be significantly reduced, and product reliability and yield can be improved.
